A Flawless Lace Melt, Every Time

A Flawless Lace Melt, Every Time

A melted lace is 80 percent preparation. If the install is lifting by midday, the problem almost always happened before the glue came out.

Prep the skin

Cleanse the hairline with an alcohol wipe to remove oil, then apply a thin scalp protector and let it dry completely. Oily skin and adhesive are simply incompatible.

Cut the lace properly

Cut in a zig-zag rather than a straight line, and leave a few millimetres past the hairline. A straight cut creates a visible ridge no amount of foundation will hide.

Thin layers, full dry

Three thin coats of adhesive, each dried until tacky and clear, hold far better than one thick coat. Press with a damp cloth for thirty seconds per section — press, do not rub.

Finish and set

Tie an elastic band around the perimeter for fifteen minutes, then mist with setting spray and blot. Tap a touch of powder one shade deeper than your skin along the parting to kill any shine.
